A potluck dinner to benefit the victims of the Gladding fire sparked an outpouring of support from the community Sunday evening. Dozens of residents showed up at the Fruitvale School Hall – so many that the overflow parking lot filled up and a third lot had to be opened. According to organizer Lyndell Grey, a garage sale several weeks ago and the potluck dinner together have generated more than $8,000. At the potluck dinner, locals lined up for barbecued tri-tip and an assortment of homemade goodies, then headed back outside to eat under the oak trees. Music was provided by Adam Lolmaugh, Folsom-based singer-songwriter Liz Ryder and the winner of Lincoln High School’s Battle of the Bands, Captains of Spaceship Earth. Donations were taken on a money tree and local celebrities, including Placer County Supervisor Robert Weygandt, kissed a goat to raise money as well. A silent auction of 67 items raised more than $2,600. Grey said. Auction items included picnic baskets, gift certificates from local restaurants such as Buonarotti and Kim’s Country Kitchen, a dozen cupcakes and framed art. Another fundraiser, this one organized by FieldHaven Feline rescue, will take place from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday at FieldHaven Feline Rescue, 2754 Ironwood Lane, in Lincoln.
