Lincoln senior Abi Lund made it official last week by signing a Letter of Intent to attend Stony Brook University on a softball scholarship. Stony Brook University is located on Long Island, NY.

Friends and family gathered on Lincoln High’s softball field for Lund’s signing ceremony. Lund said she wanted to sign the Letter of Intent on home plate because of its symbolism and why they call it “home.”

Lund has one more softball season with the Fighting Zebras and said she feels Lincoln can clinch the Pioneer Valley League title this season. She said many of the PVL teams graduated a lot of seniors from last season’s rosters.

Lund visited Stony Brook University last year and felt it was the school for her. She connected with Seawolves’ softball coach Megan Bryant and looks forward to attending college there.

“To be honest, a lot of schools from the East Coast reached out to me,” Lund said in an earlier interview. “(Stony Brook) kind of had everything but best of all was just the way it felt to me.”

Lund said she looks forward to pursuing her future in New York and is undaunted by the prospect of moving from one coast to the other. However, she’ll remember Lincoln High as where it all started.

“I love Lincoln High School,” the senior said. “I love the spirit of the school and I love the people.”

CORRECTION: Abi Lund was named All League for cross country this year in the Pioneer Valley League. It had been earlier reported no Lincoln High runner had been selected.
