Pam Lopez, owner of Mr. Pickle’s, isn’t going anywhere. In last week’s A2 story “New life in Phoenix awaits Sayad,” a photo of Lopez erroneously appeared, causing a number of her regular customers to ask her why she is leaving Lincoln. “The response has been daily, and the response has not been positive,” Lopez said Monday. “A lot of people just read the caption.” Lopez said she wants to assure the community that Mr. Pickle’s – on the corner of Third and G streets – is “here for the long haul.” The article was about Michelle Sayad, 22-year-old manager of Mr. Pickle’s. Sayad is, in fact, moving to Arizona to live with her boyfriend, who is stationed in Phoenix in the Army. Lopez is happily married to her husband, Phil, and laughed at the switch. “I’m apparently running off to Arizona to be with my boyfriend, and my husband was the last one to know,” Pam said with a laugh. “And he had to read about it in the newspaper.” The bottom line is that Mr. Pickle’s isn’t going anywhere. “We even have a brand-new sandwich,” Pam said. “It’s a Reuben on our new bread – thick-sliced marble rye. We’ve never had it before, and we’re carrying it now. It’s a tasty one.” Pam and Phil Lopez said they opened their shop in Lincoln because it is where they live and where they have their kids go to school. “We’re not going anywhere,” Pam said.
