At least the Lincoln Little League 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars went out with a bang. Chad Bagwell belted a two-run homer Monday night, but it was just a consolation prize for Lincoln in a 15-5 loss to Hollister National in the Northern California Division 2 tournament in Chico. Manager Charles Middleton tipped his cap to the players for making this summer a memorable one. “I told them they’re going to remember this for the rest of their lives,” he said. “I’ll never forget it.” No Lincoln team had advanced this far since 1980. Middleton’s team won the District 4 tournament after being one out away from being eliminated. Lincoln then won the Section 11 championship after overcoming a 5-0 deficit for a 6-5 win over West Sacramento in the first round. “These kids fought,” Middleton said. “They were going to fight till the end.” Read more about the Lincoln stars’ remarkable run in Thursday’s edition of the Lincoln News Messenger.
