Lincoln tops standings with 4-0 win over Bear River

The Lincoln High boys soccer team strengthened its hold on the Pioneer Valley League standings by handing Center a 3-1 loss on the Cougars’ home field Monday. The win improved the Fighting Zebras to 3-0-0 in league play and 9-1-1 overall. It was Lincoln’s fifth-straight victory after tying Yuba City 1-1 Sept. 12. The Zebras took a 2-1 lead into halftime and added an insurance goal in the final stanza. Bear River Lincoln moved to the top of the PVL standings after a decisive shutout win over Bear River last week. The Fighting Zebras tacked on three goals in the last half of the contest to post a 4-0 victory. Placer slipped from the top of the standings after ending up deadlocked with No. 3 Colfax 0-0 Monday. The Zebras defeated the Falcons 1-0 in dramatic fashion in their first meeting.
