Lincoln tennis team places second in Las Vegas

A senior men’s tennis team from Lincoln, representing the USTA Northern California section, finished second at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 3.0 Senior National Championships held at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nev., Sunday. Lincoln lost to a team from Roswell, 2-1, in the championship match. Earlier in the day, Lincoln defeated a team from Hawaii, 2-1, in the semifinals. Lincoln advanced this far by winning its round-robin flight Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas. Miguel Cuevas is the captain of the Lincoln team that features Jack Williams, Patrick Hamm, Rene Fuog, Pete Sands, Bob Jones, Charles Hooper, Bill Fagan, Robert Sanguinet, Stephen Sato, Henry Setyadi, Gary Lee and Mark Snapp. This squad plays its home matches at Sun City Lincoln Hills. Thirty-three teams (17 men’s team and 16 women’s teams) from around the country participated in the tournament. The USTA League program was established 28 years ago and it has grown from 13,000 participants at the start to 665,000 now. It is the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
