ROCKLIN _ The Lincoln High tennis team faced a strong challenge in the inaugural Whitney High Tennis Classic but came away with a solid 13-5 record in sets played for fifth place. The coed club of Fighting Zebras went up against an otherwise all-male field and held court very well. The outstanding doubles team of Vadim Kotyash and Blake Waidmann remained undefeated taking all three of their tournament sets. Playing singles for the Zebras were No. 1 Brandon Waidmann, No. 2 Connor Furgeson, and Kaitlin Fischer. Besides Kotyash and Waidmann, Lincoln also had the teams of Isaac Thich and Abner Apsley, and Tyler Newberry and Elizabeth Magana. The Zebras swept Antelope 6-0 in their final match of the day. In its second match, Lincoln defeated Beyer of Modesto 6-0 in straight sets. The club’s only loss came at the hands of host Whitney, 5-1. “Our successful preseason continues this week against Lindhurst,” said tennis head coach Tim Allen, “then next Monday at home against Forest Lake Christian.” Pioneer Valley League play begins March 15. Lincoln travels to Bear River for a match against the Bruins. Whitney High Tennis Classic Lincoln 6, Antelope 0 Lincoln 6, Beyer (Modesto) 0 Whitney 5, Lincoln 1
