Lincoln High’s varsity volleyball team swept visiting Bear River on Tuesday night for its second Pioneer Valley League victory of the season. The Zebras (9-9 overall, 2-6 in the PVL) rolled 25-23, 25-16, 25-12. “It was a really nice turnaround,” Lincoln coach Mandy Retallack said. “(Bear River) seemed to be struggling a little but it was the first time in any of our games that we came out and really played well in Game 1. “We had a really good practice (Monday) and played really well. I’ve been waiting for them to come to play very well.” Shannon Kellar served for 14 points and had 15 digs for the Zebras while teammate Rebekah Brumbaugh had 15 digs and eight kills. Samantha Whalen had five kills and two blocks while Hailey Balli had four attacks, two kills and a block. “(Balli’s) presence helped out a lot,” Retallack said. Bear River beat Lincoln in five games (25-15, 21-25, 17-25, 26-24, 16-14) when the teams met in the first round of league play. “I keep reminding them that they are running out of time,” Retallack said. “There are only so many games (each team plays 12 league matches) left but I think we can definitely build on (this win).” Lincoln dropped a tough five-game match (26-24, 24-26, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12) at El Dorado in its only match last week. “We felt like we were playing good and didn’t finish. Against Bear River, we finished,” Retallack said. “We didn’t play bad (against El Dorado). The reason we lost is because of our serving. We missed nine serves and six were in two games that we lost. “And we only lost those games by six (combined) points. We basically killed ourselves.” Julia Lathrop had 16 blocks and eight kills for the Zebras while Whalen had six blocks and three aces. Brumbaugh (eight kills), Balli (five kills, seven blocks), Kellar (14 digs), Shannon Fagan (six digs), Brittany Browand (nine assists), and Emmalee Dornbush (10 assists) were among the leaders for the Zebras.
