Lincoln streets brighten up for the holiday

Several houses in Lincoln are standouts for their holiday decorations. Bruce and Paddie Marovich (2161 Prairie View Lane) have an extensive display in their yard that includes Santa and an abundance of packages around the base of one tree, as well as more packages around another tree, Paddie Marovich said. Additionally, the Marovichs have a snowman with a clock that counts down the day, hours, minutes and seconds to Christmas. “We have a lot of lights,” Paddie said. “We have 1,200 on one tree alone. There’s a house across the street that is done up well, too.” David Conley (111 Fuller Court) has nearly 20,000 lights and a host of inflatable displays in his yard. Last year, Conley won a News Messenger contest. He said this year’s display “blows last year’s away.” Some of Conley’s displays include inflatable Disney characters, a sleigh and reindeer, and four-foot-tall toy soldiers and crystal angels. “We have between 50 and 100 cars coming by here each night,” Conley said. “One man brings his daughter every night or she throws a fit. She must be around two or something.” Conley said his decorations started out small but the neighborhood children kept asking him to put up more lights. Now it’s “one of those stupidly insane things,” Conley joked. While Conley expects his electric bill to be double its normal rate this month, he bought as many LED lights as possible to cut back on the electric usage. Despite those efforts, Conley said he blew out a circuit breaker and enlisted the help of a neighbor to power the inflatable Santa and snowman. Conley turns his lights on when it gets dark and turns them off at 9 each night.
