Lincoln runners decide to run in 'The Other Meet'

SACRAMENTO _ The Lincoln High School cross country team participated in The Other Meet so named because it was Saturday’s alternative to the Clovis Invite. Hosted by Rio Americano and McClatchy high schools, the event was held in Granite Regional Park. It is a 3.1-mile course for varsity and 2.2-mile for frosh/soph. Only three varsity boys and two varsity girls ran for the Fighting Zebras. The boys were led by Uriah Smith who set a 20:29 pace for 60th place. Bryant Garcia was right behind stopping the watch at 20:38. Matthew Binning covered the 5k in 23:50. Kali Federwisch clocked 22:11 for third in the varsity girls division. Katy Mercier crossed the finish line in a time of 23:29. Junior Varsity Haley Higgins continued to make cross-country running look like a walk in the park by claiming 10th place in a time of 15:59. There were 69 girls competing. Also making a strong showing was Alex Ceja (22nd, 16:41), Annika Lehenbauer (27th, 16:56), Megan Snook (28th, 17:00) and Kelsy Prentice finished in a time of 17:36 for the 35th spot. The frosh/soph boys found it to be a fast field with Pascual Marquez getting the 43rd spot clocking 13:46. Evan Deatherage crossed in 14:15 for 52nd and Aaron Jackson was just six places back with a time of 14:39. Daniel Hagge run the course in 15 minutes flat and Brian Ackerson rounded out the Zebras’ field at 91 in a time of 17:47.
