Lincoln resident elected to senior softball Hall of Fame
By: Staff report
Lincoln resident Irv Schafer was recently elected to the Senior Softball Hall of Fame. Schafer earned this distinction by his stellar performance in major tournaments at the highest levels of senior softball. One in about 300 senior softball players are selected for the Hall of Fame. He has been selected to 25 All-World, All-American and All-Tournament teams and has been chosen tournament MVP eight times in his career. Schafer has 20 championship rings for being on title-winning teams in these tournaments. When he’s not playing in major tournaments, Schafer plays for the Coyotes. Schafer’s greatest supporter throughout more than 20 years of softball competition has been his wife Dorothy. The couple has lived in Lincoln Hills for more than seven years and they were honored at a recent ceremony at Del Webb Field. Schafer, who helped launch the Instructional League in 2002 by working with players to improve their batting, hopes to continue playing and promoting senior softball for many years to come.
