Lincoln received two awards given by the American Planning Association recently for the newly completed General Plan update, and the City Council members expressed their appreciation Tuesday during the meeting. The first award was for the best plan in the local chapter, which qualified Lincoln for the statewide category, in which it won for its size. Director of Community Planning Rodney Campbell accepted the awards and attributed them to the fact that the plan was unique in being a 50-year plan and applauded the smart growth it involves. Dave Daly, manager of the Lincoln Regional Airport, gave a presentation on the plan for the airport, and it was given the nod by the council in a unanimous decision. Daly said there is more than enough space for the forecasted needs and the construction of more hangers is on schedule. Councilman Tom Cosgrove congratulated Daly on a good plan that lays the groundwork for the Highway 65 bypass linkup and Mayor Primo Santini said he was happy with the fact that all the environmental impacts were reduced to less than significant levels.
