Lincoln High senior Sarah Bietz and sophomore Jessica Ho won the Sac-Joaquin Section, Division III doubles tennis championship at Oak Park in Stockton over the weekend. Bietz and Ho were the top seed from the Pioneer Valley League and they drew a first-round bye. They were able to scout future opponents during this bye. Lincoln’s pair started off the day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sacramento Country Day on May 14. This put Lincoln into the semifinals on Friday against Escalon, a powerhouse from the south. Lincoln opened up a 5-1 lead but Escalon battled back to tie the set at 5-5. Lincoln then responded to win 7-5. Ho and Bietz also won the last two games of the second set, taking it 6-4. This put Lincoln into the finals against Argonaut of Jackson. Lincoln won the first set 7-5 and took the second one 6-4 to claim the section championship. “Our level of play improved in the second set,” Lincoln coach Tim Allen said. “Jessica and Sarah could sense the possibility of the section championship.” This was Lincoln’s first section championship in tennis in about a decade. Ho also competed in the section tournament last year, playing mixed doubles with Jeremy Orteza.
