Lincoln?s offense came alive in a 12-1 win over Auburn to claim the District 11 Area 1 Majors All Star tournament Saturday. The eighth-and-nine hitters proved instrumental in Lincoln?s win. Third-baseman Zach Eutsey and left-fielder Ryan Graham combined to go 5-for-5, score six runs and drive in eight. Eutsey launched a three-run home run in the fourth inning to further an ever-widening lead. Graham followed Eutsey?s three-run jack with a solo home run. An inning earlier, the outfielder launched a three-run home run over the right-field fence. ?I was just hoping it would go out,? said Graham, as to what was going through his head on his second home run. ?This would be my first multi-home run game.? Charles Middleton had a productive day at the plate. The second baseman went 2-for-3 with a run scored and run batted in. Starting-pitcher James Sweet allowed one-earned run in three-innings of work. An impressive statistic that carried over from the two team?s first-round game was Lincoln?s ability to keep Auburn out of scoring position. Sweet and Michael Hamp allowed only one runner to get in scoring position in their July 7 championship game. In their first-round match, the duo of Hamp and Leo Martinez also allowed only one runner to get into scoring position. In 10 innings against Auburn, Lincoln allowed two runners to get in scoring position. Lincoln would outscore their opponent 17-1 in the two games combined. A remarkable feat, considering Auburn scored 37 runs against all other opponents. The Lincoln All Stars will now play a best-of-three game series against the winner of the Area 2 tournament. The first game will be held at Twin Oaks Park, the second at Nevada City. If needed, the deciding third game will return to Twin Oaks Park. The series will begin July 9.
