The Lincoln boys soccer team made up for a disappointed tie last week by crushing Bear River 7-1 Monday. Goals in the contest were scored by Logan Hasty (2), Eric Avila (2), Leo Calderon, Chris Miranda and Christian Hengel. Assisting were Isaul Batista, Hasty, Avila and Hengel. Lincoln 1, Colfax 1 Colfax managed to score in the second half of their soccer game at Lincoln High School to earn a 1-1 tie. That put a small blemish on the Fighting Zebras’ otherwise perfect Pioneer Valley League record but the boys in blue remained atop the league standings. Lincoln made it through the first round of PVL play unbeaten and untied but lost a bit of focus in their second match with the Falcons. After Miguel Franco put the Zebras up 1-0 on an assist from Eric Avila, Colfax came back with a score of their own in the final stanza. The tie was only Lincoln’s second of the season against 11 victories and one loss. That loss came in their first match of the year Aug. 24. We were very disappointed with a tie,” said Lincoln head soccer coach Vasa Lokteff. “Plain and simple, we were off that game. Our passes weren’t sharp. Our defense is usually perfect in the back without any errors in passing and we were making a lot of errors.” Lincoln 3, Placer 0 The defense was sharp against Placer in a game two days prior to the Colfax match. The Zebras blanked the Hillmen 3-0. Franco, Chris Miranda and Ran Longley all scored in that contest. Lokteff is confident his club has the skills to go all the way in the PVL, but he maintains strict rules when it comes to grades. He said he doesn’t want any of his players carrying a D or and F in any of their classes. “I think we have all the talent in the world. The players are very talented,” said Lokteff. “We’re working hard to stay focused academically. If we can keep all those pieces off the field in line then I think we can win the championship this year.” This week, Lincoln was scheduled to play at Bear River Monday and then entertain Center Wednesday.
