Organized by Lincoln Kiwanis, a group of approximately 50 volunteers gave a weary portable classroom a fresh look Saturday for Glen Edwards Middle School music students.

The volunteers painted, added backpack hooks, and installed new shelving for musical instrument storage, according to Mary Luciano of Lincoln Kiwanis.

The volunteers included members from Kiwanis, Interact/Key Club and the Builders Club. The group worked with suppliers to get donated supplies for the project, Luciano said.

Glen Edwards Middle School music teacher Albert Medina said that he and his students “are grateful and excited” about their remodeled space. He teaches five classes, totaling 156 students, who use the room on a weekly basis.

“It gives the students a sense of belonging and lets them know that people care about them,” Medina said.

Medina also plays clarinet with the Sierra College Symphony.
