The Lincoln junior varsity Zebras stayed perfect with a 29-19 win over Highway-65 rival Wheatland Friday. The game was won with a solid running performance and the defensive efforts of Harrison Stewart. Stewart made his mark in two-consecutive plays in the waning minutes of the second quarter. With Lincoln leading 9-7, Zebras’ linebacker Jacob Mitchell sacked the Pirates’ quarterback and jarred the ball loose in the shadow of Wheatland’s goal post. Stewart picked the ball out of the air and ran unhindered for a Lincoln score. Following the kickoff, the Pirates got great field position but the threat was short-lived. Stewart recovered another Wheatland fumble to stall the Pirates effort to close the score. Stewart also had 53 rushing yards on six carries. In total the Zebras totaled 230 yards on the ground. Dane Stimbert led all runners with 74 yards and a touchdown. After a slow start in the first half, Lincoln quarterback Isaiah Garcia had a couple key pass completions that made the difference in the second half. Garcia connected on passes to Mitchell Holt and Daniel Leverton to supplement the running game. That latter 11-yard aerial to Leverton provided the deciding score of the game. The JV Zebras head on the road to play Mesa Verde tonight. The game is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
