Lincoln High’s varsity football team will get a break from Pioneer Valley League play on Friday as the undefeated Zebras will host Marysville at 7:30 p.m. Lincoln is 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the PVL while the Marysville Indians are 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the Golden Empire League. The Indians have won three games in a row after dropping their first three games of the season. They have beat Golden Sierra (35-14), San Juan (34-0) and Encina (40-10) in league competition and lost to Wheatland (28-6), Yuba City (29-6) and Gridley (21-6) in non-league action. The one common opponent with Lincoln is Wheatland as the Zebras beat the Wheatland Pirates 28-21 on Sept. 18. Junior Michael Barabin is the primary offensive threat for the Indians. He has rushed 112 times for 703 yards (6.28 yards-per-carry) and six touchdowns this season. Following Friday’s game, Lincoln will close the regular season with PVL games versus Placer (6-0, 2-0), Bear River (3-3, 0-2) and Colfax (4-2, 2-1). Each of those games will be on the road. “We are talking about the playoffs and winning in the playoffs,” said Lincoln senior running back/ linebacker Alex Cowden about the mood of the players. “But we are taking each team seriously.”
