The Lincoln Hill?s Del Webb Field came alive this past weekend with the ninth annual Coyote Invitational softball tournament featuring six of the area?s top teams. Hosted by the Coyotes 65s, manager John Dambrosio went after some of the top clubs in the Sacramento area and Bay Area. Accepting the invitations were Grumpy Old Men, Nor Cal Redhawks, California Olden Bears, Prime Time and Strike Force ? and of course the Coyotes. Perhaps it was just their attitude but the Grumpy Old Men claimed the championship trophy with a 4-1 record. Prime Time came in as runner up, also with a 4-1 record. Fifteen games were played over the two-day tournament with eight decided by one run. Ten home runs were hit, seven out of the park and three inside. At 3-2, the Coyotes didn?t earn a trophy but they were the only club to beat Grumpy Old Men. Lincoln?s Ron Greeno hammered out three round-trippers earning 14 runs batted in and an .800 batting average. Greeno also supplied great defense. D.J. Cox also had a home run, as did Brock Dagg and Dambrosio. The pitching was done by Nick Eterovich, Kenny Fedder and Bob Zielinski. All had a great time, including the fans who watched the games while munching on hot dogs and eating chili. Everyone will be looking forward to the 10th anniversary of the Coyote Invitational.
