Lincoln High is jumping into the Pioneer Valley League swimming competition this year and local prep swimmers are encouraged to try out.

Practice begins March 4 at the McBean Park Pool at 4 p.m. Practice will be held Monday through Friday, 4-5:30 p.m. with competition beginning March 15.

Initial practice will consist of stroke development and technique, racing strategies, breathing techniques, flip turns and endurance.

Each swimmer is asked to donate $150 to help cover the cost of pool heating and maintenance. Athletes will also need a workout suit, cap and goggles. They can be purchased at at discount prices. The estimated cost would be $65-$100.

The program will work with those students needing financial assistance.

The coach is Lori Stanley. Stanley grew up in Huntington Beach and was a high school swimmer.

She became a lifeguard at 18 and taught water sports to the Girl Scouts and the cities of Long Beach and Costa Mesa.
