Lincoln golfers fire record low round to skin Cougars

The Lincoln High golf team continued its sharp shooting through nine holes by carding a team-total 197 to dispatch Pioneer Valley League challenger Center. The Cougars shot 288. The Fighting Zebras averaged just a little more than 39 strokes per man over the first nine holes of the Orchard Course at Lincoln Highs Golf Club. They were led by Kenny Bills who turned in a one-under 35 to lead the boys in blue. Lincoln?s Josh Von Pohle fired a 47 as the sixth man, 24 strokes less than his counterpart from Center. In a make up match with Bear River, the Bruins caught the Zebras hibernating and came away with a 209-211 victory. Trever Wilson had the low round for Lincoln shooting a 39. Matt Shirley and Chris Ordonia turned in 42s, and Bills struggled to a 44 over the Lake of the Pines Golf Course. In a regularly scheduled match against Foothill, the Mustangs came up a player short and had to forfeit. However, the Zebras had a 220 round at Cherry Island Golf Course with Wilson leading the way. Wilson tallied 40, Shirley and Bills had 42s. Weather permitting, Lincoln was headed for Auburn Valley Country Club for a match against Placer, Tuesday.
