Lincoln girls have rough go against Placer
Placer’s girls basketball team remained undefeated in Pioneer Valley League play with a 47-32 victory at Lincoln Wednesday.
The Lady Hillmen opened the game with a 9-1 run and never looked back. The Fighting Zebras contributed to Placer’s run with five turnovers in the first four minutes.
Lincoln then pulled together to outscore the Hillmen 7-0 and appeared they would get back into the game. However, the girls in green slowed the comeback with perimeter shooting.
The Zebras eventually cut Placer’s lead to four on a Megan Flores’ field goal in the second period but the Hillmen countered with a 3-pointer. Although Placer shot only 20 percent from beyond the arc, it was enough to keep the Zebras off balance.
“We wanted to make them work every single possession,” said Placer head coach Tony Camillucci, who added his defense put extra pressure on Lincoln sophomore point guard Taylor Galli. “I think that wore them down in the second half.”
The girls in blue shot 5-of-17 in the first half allowing the Hillmen to gain a 14-point lead. The second half started even worse with Lincoln missing their first seven attempts from the floor.
Placer improved to 3-0 in league, the Zebras are 0-3.
Lincoln will host Foothill Friday 7 p.m.
