It wasn’t easy, but Colfax High girls basketball team toppled the Lincoln Fighting Zebras and kept the Pioneer Valley League championship to itself last week. It was also a night where blue-and-gold fans said goodbye to seniors Elizabeth Magana, Sarah Dargan, Nicole Salgado, Kaitlin Fischer, and Rihka Unciano. Lincoln finished 2-8 in league and 8-18 overall. The final game was played without junior Cassandra Jaimes who injured her Achilles tendon against Placer the week before. Magana led the Zebras with 10 points. Dargan finished with eight points, and Fischer six. Lincoln finished fifth in the PVL and out of the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs. They defeated both Center and Placer during league play. It was the first win over the Lady Hillmen since Placer entered the PVL. However, Placer and Foothill made the playoffs in Division III, and Colfax and Bear River will compete in Division IV. The Falcons improved to 8-2 in the PVL and claimed first place. Colfax shared the PVL title with Bear River last season, but finished alone atop the standings this year. “This group really struggled at the beginning of the year, but they came together just before league,” Colfax coach Dave Campbell said. “They developed some chemistry and realized this was what they wanted. They worked really hard the first half of league and went 6-0 and had a lot of fun. We had minor setbacks with Placer and Bear River, but they’re really resilient and they find a way to win.” COLFAX 36, LINCOLN 25 Colfax 11 9 10 6 – 36 Lincoln 5 6 4 10 – 25 C–Davidson 2, Lillie 7, Tobiaz 8, Tremoureux 2, Lis 10, Biles 2, Scott 5.
