Lincoln comes off Placer loss to win a pair

Zebras battle Center for third spot

After dropping a 12-2 decision in Auburn to the Lady Hillmen last Wednesday, the Lincoln High softball team quickly recovered to defeat Colfax 5-4 Friday and crush Center 11-3 Monday. Both games were at home. Fighting Zebras’ pitcher Miranda Schroeder scattered nine Center hits. The Blue Sox defense was solid and their offense explosive. Center-fielder Ashleigh Sidman was 5-for-4, including a triple and a double, scored four times and had a run batted in. Collecting two RBI apiece were Abi Lund (2-4), Courtney Jones (2-4, including a triple), and Lacy Lewis (3-3); Lund scored twice and Lewis once. In helping her own cause, Schroeder had two hits, an RBI and scored. Also getting hits were Alexis Bliechwehl, Halle Esparza and Rachael Dal Porto. Justina Thompson also scored. The win improved the Zebras record to 3-2 matching both Center and Placer in the Pioneer Valley League race. Bear River is on top at 4-0. Lincoln 5, Colfax 4 Jones doubled and tripled in the contest and Stidman had a single, a double, and a sacrifice as each drove in a run. Bliechwehl and Kristie MacQueen also had an RBI apiece. MacQueen was 2-for-3 with a double. Also collecting hits were Lewis and Marissa Armstrong. Armstrong was 3-2. Schroeder went the full seven innings using Lincoln’s strong defense to keep Colfax in check. Schroeder finished with three strikeouts, three walks and gave up seven hits. Lincoln was near perfect in fielding picking up just one error. Placer 12, Lincoln 2 The Lady Hillmen hung onto third place in the Pioneer Valley League by rallying past the Zebras with a 10-run victory. Placer’s pitcher Kaelin Amrein worked out of early trouble to hold off the defending PVL champs. Lincoln squandered a prime scoring opportunity in the first inning as the Hillgals showed tenacity they haven’t had in years. Lincoln’s Macqueen blasted a two-run home run to left field, but the Zebras managed just one hit the rest of the way.
