COLFAX – Both the Rocklin Little League Cardinals and the Lincoln Little League Cardinals finished as the “B” teams in their respective leagues, as they entered the opening round of the District 11Tournament of Champions Monday night.

It turned out to be a battle of defense and pitching, and Lincoln emerged to play another day by defeating Rocklin 2-0.

Ayden Pope set the pace for Rocklin pitching. In his first 2 1/3 innings, he struck out seven of the first 11 batters he faced. But later in the third inning, Chase Christopherson hit a base-clearing double that proved to be the difference.

Lincoln starter Wyatt Arbaugh struck out six on the night, but his defense was solid committing no errors; the Rocklin Cardinals chalked up three.

Pope finished with nine strikeouts and his relievers added another three. Arbaugh’s relief pitchers also added three more Ks to his team’s totals.

With the victory, Lincoln B advanced to play the Penn Valley Brewers Friday night at 5p.m. in Colfax.

Rocklin A (Yankees) are up against Grass Valley B, 5 p.m. Wednesday, Tri-City A (Athletics) plays at 5 Thursday and Tri-City B vs. Grass Valley A at 7:30.

Lincoln A (Braves) play at 7:30 Friday against Auburn B.
