It was a close finish last week, but the Lincoln boys basketball team pulled out a 45-44 victory at Center to stay atop the Pioneer Valley League standings.

It was reported Marcus Salgado scored 22 points in the contest to lead the boys in blue.

The Fighting Zebras are currently the No. 4 seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Power Ratings released Feb. 2. The PVL is the second-highest rated league for Division III. Should Lincoln win its next three games it will not only claim the league crown but could improve their seeding as well.

Maintaining the No. 4 seed would mean two home games in the playoffs depending on the outcome of their first game. Lincoln would host East Union (16-7) from the Valley Oak League. The VOL is rated 6.4 in the league power ratings, the PVL 6.9.

The Zebras were set to host Foothill Wednesday for Senior Night and then travel to Auburn for a game against Placer Friday. The Hillmen handed Lincoln their only league loss 66-43.

The Zebras’ final regular season game will be at Colfax Feb. 12. The Falcons have beaten Placer twice and lost to Foothill and Lincoln.

Lincoln completed its sweep of the Bruins by downing the Lake of the Pines’ club on their home court Jan. 30.

Bear River’s Justin Beskeen, who had been averaging nearly 21 points a game, tallied four in the contest. The senior scored 27 against Center Jan. 25 and 30 in a loss to Foothill Feb. 1.
