Lincoln athletes named All League in PVL

At no surprise, a number of Lincoln High School athletes were named All League in the Pioneer Valley League for the 2012 spring season. A total of 28 Fighting Zebras earned the honor. BASEBALL Topping the list for the boys in blue were Jordan Albarron, Trent Parks, Jake Sola and Ethan Liddle. Earning honorable mention were Kody Kencke, Isaiah Garcia and James Pallas. Only Albarron and Parks are due to graduate; Liddle and Pallas are juniors, Sola is a sophomore and Garcia a freshman. Center?s Nathan Lukes was voted MVP and Coach of the Year was Center?s Jeff Wise. GOLF The sharpshooting Kenny Bills and Trevor Wilson made the gold team. Both players qualified to play in the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs at the Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland. Wilson missed qualifying for the Masters by one stroke. Bills is a senior and Wilson a junior. Player of the Year was Placer?s Austin Childress and Coach of the Year was the Hillmens? Greg French. SOCCER Lincoln filled most of the All League team with Melanie Abeyta, Melissa Arthurs, Jasmine Bains, Abbie Faingold and Alyssa Gallagher. Receiving honorable mention were Madeline Brown, Carly DeWeese, Natalie Franco, Alexandria Kent, Celina Maldonado and Eliza Vergara. Runners up in the PVL, the Fighting Zebras surprised the league with strong defensive play and rapid development. Those graduating are Albeyta, Franco, Moore and Vergara. Colfax took players of the year: Offense, Janelle Jensen; Defense, Kate Bianchi. Coach of the Year went to the Falcons? Lefty Wilks. SOFTBALL Seniors Asleigh Stidman and Miranda Schroeder were given the nod in softball. Stidman was a solid center fielder with a strong bat and Schroeder was the Fighting Zebras? ace pitcher. Honorable mention went to Courtney Jones, Abi Lund and Lacy Lewis. Jones, a catcher and Lund, the shortstop are both juniors. Bear River?s Alyssa Reina was MVP, and two made Coach of the Year: the Bruins? Duane Zauner and Placer?s Doug Menefee. TENNIS Also surprising the league was this year?s Fighting Zebras? tennis team. The club took second in the PVL and made the section playoffs for the first time in a decade. Lincoln?s Brandon Waidmann was named All League for the boys and Kaitlin Fischer for the girls. Earning honorable mention was Elizabeth Magana. Although the three will be lost to graduation the core team should return for another great season in 2013. Placer?s Steven Fraguglia and Tine Hummel were named MVP for boys and girls respectively. The Hillmens? Tony Isaac was named Coach of the Year. Placer went on to defeat Escalon for the section championship in tennis.
