An 8-6 win over Rocklin Thursday puts the Lincoln All-Stars into the District 11, Area 1 Major?s Majors championship round starting this weekend. Greden McFarlin doubled in the first two runs to put Lincoln on the board. Leo Martinez increased the lead to 3-0 with run-scoring single. Rocklin tied the game on a solo home run by Sam Portello, a passed-ball run and an RBI double by Trevor Barnes. Rocklin took the lead 4-3 in the next inning off Brooks McKeighan?s solo home run with two innings remaining. Lincoln lost an opportunity to score in the next inning with runners on first and second and only one out. However, the Rocklin defense ended that opportunity with a double play. But Lincoln would come out swinging in the fifth-inning with four players driving in runs. McFarlin, Nick Pereira and Ryan Graham knocked in runs with base hits and Michael Hamp powered in another with a double. That gave Lincoln an 8-4 lead. McKeighan gave Rocklin a glimmer of hope with his second home run that cut the lead to two with just one out. Lincoln manager Mario Pereira then called on Justin Kraft to pitch and collect the final two outs. After throwing three consecutive balls, Kraft bounced back to deliver three strikes and the first out. He got the next batter to hit a foul ball that was gathered in for the last out and seal the win. Lincoln now awaits the winner of Friday?s Rocklin vs. Auburn game. Auburn comes in having outscored their opponents 26-3 in their last two games. The championship round begins 7 p.m. Saturday at Twin Oaks Park.
