After an exciting boys season came to an end with the first-ever section high school volleyball championships, the Optimist All Star Volleyball Games are back, featuring the best senior players from the greater Sacramento area. The event, set for Thursday night at Capital Christian High School, off Highway 50 near Bradshaw, begins with the 11th annual boys game. The 22nd annual girls game follows 25 minutes after the end of the boys match. Sierra Foothill League co-MVPs, Jack Powell of Granite Bay and Tyler Salcedo of Nevada Union are the headliners for the SFL team in the boys game. The girls return to the court, months after the end of their fall season, with the North team to be led by SFL MVP and Sacramento State-bound Janelle Currey of Rocklin High. The SFL boys team also includes Mike Greiner and Ryan Albers of Woodcreek, and Mike Naki and Travis Wefald of Granite Bay. In addition to Currey, the girls North squad includes Hannah Anderson of Rocklin; Jessica Lehner and Rachel Vetterlein of Del Oro; Breanna Warnock of Roseville; and Meghan Wilton of Woodcreek. The boys match begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, followed immediately by the girls contest. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for children under 12.
