Thank you again, Lincoln, for your outstanding, caring, patriotic, generous spirit.
As part of the Lincoln Kiwanis Club’s major fundraising project of selling See’s Candy, we asked you to donate a little more this Christmas season to show our support to our deployed troops in Afghanistan and our recovering wounded troops in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.
As a result of your efforts, we shipped 1,192 pounds of these outstanding chocolates with a value of almost $20,000.
The total donation of candy from the other 10 participating clubs in this program was about 1,300 pounds. Lincoln’s star shines brightly and our servicemen and women had their spirits lifted by this touch of home during the holiday season.
We also thank you for your overall candy purchases. They too set a new record high. The proceeds from these sales primarily benefit Lincoln’s children through our many projects that include college scholarships, contributions to our local school libraries, summer reading programs, the Lincoln Youth Center, our annual free “Fishing Derby,” Ride to Walk and various other school and community programs.
We will be selling this delicious See’s candy again at Easter time at our See’s kiosk, just inside the main doors at Orchard Creek Lodge, 965 Orchard Creek Lane (just off Del Webb Boulevard) in Sun City Lincoln Hills, from March 11 through March 30. Mark your calendars and look for our signs.
If you would like to join in our efforts, please contact our membership committee, Ted Widing (434-6081) or Sharon Lewis (434-7990). Be our guest at one of our Tuesday weekly breakfast meetings at 7 a.m., Buonarroti Ristorante, 460 Lincoln Blvd. in downtown Lincoln.
