Name: Katie Trott Age: 44 Family: Husband, Jeff; sons, Quincy, 13, and Liam, 9; and daughter, Alena, 7. When did you first start sewing and why? When I was little, it was with my mom. She was in 4-H and I always watched her sew. As I got older, I helped her and started sewing my own things for school, senior ball and graduation. I did my senior ball gown and graduation dress. I’ve been quilting for about four years. What was the first sewing project you ever did? It was the ‘80s and I did a purple dress with polka dots. I was probably 15. When did you sew your first quilt? I was probably 6 or 7. I hand-sewed it using scraps and it was a little doll quilt. I still have that. Where do you get your inspiration for projects? My inspiration is, I think, from other blogs and Pinterest (a website). It’s so much fun using a pattern but taking a pattern and making it my own is a lot of fun and it doesn’t have to be perfect. To me, it’s the fabric. The fabric is the true inspiration. Why did you open this store in Lincoln? I really wanted to be a part of downtown Lincoln. I feel like it’s a really special place. I want to be a part of the change, of seeing it grow. I don’t want it to be a tourist destination. What I want to see is Lincoln keep the specialness of what it is. What are some upcoming sewing class topics? The one I’m most excited about is the free class to make a table runner and the cash-and-carry pouch from 6 to 8 tonight). Are your children involved in sewing/quilting? Yes, all of them. The boys like that it’s a machine and I have to tell them it’s not a toy. Quincy has done a few projects. He wants me to make him a pillowcase with the rocket fabric. Alena comes in and she likes to work here.
