With a 34-6 win over the visiting Oakmont Vikings, the junior varsity Zebras improved to 5-0 on the season last Friday. Defense played a major role in the victory, as it has all year. The win marks the third time the Zebras held the opposing offense under double-digits. Defensive back Tate Thiel started the scoring with a 16-yard interception return for a touchdown. “I saw the quarterback looking in my direction,” said Thiel. “I jumped on the ball … it sort of just happened.” Thiel’s interception was one of three on the night. Also getting interceptions were Andrew Fagan and Jackson Sterling. Jacob Mitchell recorded three sacks on a night, Fagan and Luke Suchomel had one apiece. The Zebras’ special teams allowed the Vikings only 29 yards on returns. Fagan scored three defensive TDs on a fumble return, interception and special-teams return. Andy Boehm rushed for 68 yards on 13 attempts and Harrison Stewart had two scores on four carries. With five wins, the Zebras begin Pioneer Valley League play at Center. Lincoln head coach Wayne Paul is confident his club will do well. “These guys are 5-0 for a reason,” said Paul. “They’re firing on all cylinders right now.” Lincoln 34, Oakmont 6 Vikings 0 0 6 0-6 Fighting Zebras 0 14 14 6-34
