The Jr. Zebras football squads filled in their bye week scrimmaging Whitney’s Jr. Wildcats, Aug. 30. The Lincoln squads are back in action this weekend against the Jr. Tigers at Roseville. The Jr. Midgets and Jr. PeeWees traveled to Whitney Ranch Park and both did well against the Jr. Wildcats. Both Jr. Zebras’ clubs are ranked at the top of the Sierra Valley USA standings. “We’re holding our own, that’s for sure,” said Jr. PeeWees head coach James Brown. “We’re right where we want to be.” Brown said his team’s chemistry is good, and the players are beginning to react rather than having to think about what they’re doing. Brown credits his coaches for the team’s success as they have been together since many of Jr. PeeWee’s were Mitey Mites. Brown extended his gratitude to Whitney’s Jr. Wildcats for the sportsmanship displayed during the scrimmage. Both clubs had a bye week for Labor Day. “We had a great scrimmage with (Whitney),” Brown said, “and we were successful in what we tried.” The Jr. Zebras hosted the Mitey Mites, PeeWees and Midgets scrimmage against Whitney at Lincoln field, McBean Park. All clubs gave a solid performance with the Jr. Wildcats giving the Jr. Zebras Midgets a good test, as well at Lincoln’s PeeWees. Many of the Jr. Zebras and Jr. Wildcats attend the same schools so there was plenty of conversation to go along with the spirited play. E-mail News Messenger Sports at
