GRANITE BAY _ The Lincoln Jr. Zebras gained a hard earned split with a tough group from Granite Bay in week two of Sierra Valley USA Jr. Football action, Saturday. The day began with the Mitey Mites putting forth a spirited effort against the Jr. Grizzlies. SVUSA rules don’t score Mitey Mite games. The Junior PeeWee’s team got stronger as the game went along and earned a convincing 25-7 victory over a solid Granite Bay team. Four different Jr. Zebras scored as the Zebras pulled away for the win. In a fantastic defensive tussle, the PeeWee’s team fell just short of the Jr. Grizzlies as the game went into overtime in a scoreless tie. Both scored on pass completions in overtime, but Granite Bay was able to convert their extra point for a final score of 7-6. The Jr. Midgets dominated from the start rolling to a 28-0 win. The Jr. Zebras demonstrated a stout defense and scored on both the ground and through the air. The nightcap was tough for the Jr. Zebras Midgets. Granite Bay brought a maximum roster that was just too much for a determined group from Lincoln. While the Midgets fought valiantly they couldn’t contain the Jr. Grizzlies for a final score of 36-0. The Jr. Zebras are off next weekend for Labor Day, then travel to Roseville, Sept. 10, to take on the Jr. Tigers. The Jr. PeeWee’s and Jr. Midget teams will be fighting to remain in first place in their respective SVUSA divisions.
