Jr. PeeWees and Jr. Midgets advance to championships
The Lincoln Jr. Zebras’ teams of Jr. PeeWees and Jr. Midgets won their semifinal matches and will play in the championship game this Saturday at Granite Bay.
Last week, the Jr. PeeWees traveled to Antelope and beat the Jr. Titans 25-0.
Nick Burns scored the first touchdown set up by a Malachi Nelson to George Diaz pass. Diaz then took a pass from Tommy Turner to up the score to 12-0.
In the second quarter, Nick Miller intercepted a pass. He rushed for a TD two plays later for an 18-0 Lincoln lead. Burns closed out the scoring on a 3-yard run and passed to Zach Hatten for the extra point.
The shutout defense was led by Chase Freeman, Cameron Chatterton and Seth Sampson.
In Grass Valley, the Jr. Midgets held off the Del Campo Jr. Cougars for a 28-18 victory.
Lincoln’s Preston Eklund went 42 yards for a TD. He later hit Matt Brown with a 25-yard pass to set up a 5-yard score by Ryan Graham. Graham came back to intercept a Del Campo pass and raced 65 yards to put the score at 20-0 Lincoln.
After the Jr. Cougars closed the gap to 20-12, Graham rushed for another TD and Eslinger put the Jr. Zebras up 28-12 with the point-after kick. Del Campo again scored, but Robert Coe killed their hopes by intercepting a pass and Lincoln ran out the clock.
Lincoln’s PeeWees lost 21-14 to Antelope as the clock ran out with the Jr. Zebras’ on the Jr. Titans’ 2-yard line. Scoring for Lincoln was Ethan Suchomel on a pass from Luke Wiley; Ernesto Cuevas ran 3 yards for a TD and Antonio Nevarez kicked the PAT.
Lincoln’s Mitey Mites closed out the 2012 season hosting 14 teams in the Woody Watkins Memorial Mitey Mite Bowl. Lincoln defeated Placer but lost to Woodland and Antelope (overtime) in the two-game elimination tournament.
