JoyTime Daycare and Preschool has won a $5,000 grant from First Five of California. The grant is awarded for advancing the education potential of children in the first five years of life. All of the funds awarded must e used to purchase items that support this goal. Some of the items that have been purchased for this purpose are shown on the JoyTime Web site at www.metrodaycare.com. JoyTime is a nationally accredited program. The accreditation is awarded and monitored by the National Association of Family ChildCare. The accreditation requires considerably more than California state licensing. Many of the additional requirements are related to safety and cleanliness. Joyce Smith, owner of JoyTime Daycare and Preschool, said that since she became accredited, the children in her care experience less illness, and the increase in safety standards has helped keep the children safe from harm. Smith is also a mentor for the new providers in Placer County. This program is coordinated by the Placer County Office of Education. JoyTime Preschool will be starting morning and afternoon kindergarten readiness programs on Aug. 25. These will be half-day programs, Monday through Friday, on a continuing basis. They are now taking applications for enrollment. JoyTime is offering a summer science camp for 3-5 year old children, on Saturday mornings starting July 12, and running for four weeks.
