Neft is a longtime Placer County resident and owner of the former Persimmon Café on A Street in Lincoln. Her new book is “Placer County Real Food Cookbook; Recipes and Menus for Every Week of the Year.” The book has information about Placer County farmers and the food they grow. Incorporating only a few ingredients each, the recipes are simple and full of flavor. The cookbook answers the age-old question, “What’s for Dinner?” in 52 weekly menus with more than 300 in-season recipes, all accompanied by photos and stories from growers and community members. “We are promoting Joanne Neft’s new cookbook because we are passionate about our farms and hope this will inspire you to enjoy the food grown right here on your doorsteps,” said Billie Jean Salle of Sierra Fresh Farmers’ Market. “You will all be eating healthier, tastier foods, and the farmers will continue farming as they have here in the foothills for the past 100 years. This book presents easy, healthy recipes using the fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, nuts and grains growing in the northern foothills of California. Neft and chef Laura Kenny spent one year developing recipes using only the seasonal food purchased each week at the farmers markets. The farmers’ market is at 965 Orchard Creek Lane. The book signing starts at 9 a.m. For more information, visit online at placercountyrealfood.com. ~ Staff report
