It was an unusually warm Saturday as the 2012 half of the California High School Rodeo got off to a good start with District 3’s fifth event, Jan. 14-15, Lincoln Rodeo Grounds. The grandstands were full of family, friends and Lincoln’s residents cheering on the junior high and high school cowboys and cowgirls. Saturday, the Junior Barrel Racing Arena record was broken by Carlie Bisby. Bisby, and eighth grader at Franklin Middle School in Live Oak, set a new time of 17.623 seconds to raise that bar yet another notch. Lincoln resident Joe Guthrie was welcomed into the District 3 competition. Guthrie is a seventh grader at Glen Edwards Middle School. He competed in the chute dogging and junior boys goat tying. District 3 will travel to Red Bluff to compete in District 1’s rodeo, Feb. 17-19. The next District 3 rodeo is March 10-11. Also in March is the Challenge of Champions at Plymouth, March 23-25. The Challenge of Champions is a rodeo where the top three in each event from all nine districts compete. Kathy Prendergast is the publicity director for CHSRA District 3
