In sports, every victory comes at the cost of another?s defeat. Lincoln Little League?s Majors? Division said goodbye to three teams that made an exciting 2012 season possible. After being eliminated by the Phillies, Pirates? Manager Tom Turner spoke with a sentiment that could be reiterated for each club that did not reach its ultimate goal of a championship. ?These kids are good ballplayers.? said Turner. ?I want to see them at the next level; I hope to see them at the next level.? The Pirates, Padres and Rangers were the first three teams to be eliminated from the championship chase. The Phils, losers to the Yankees June 5, had to battle back to defeat the Pirates and Padres to avoid elimination. The Rangers lost. The Red Sox lost to the Yankees and defeated the Rangers 4-2 to keep their hopes alive. Despite the rough season, the Bucs? showed resiliency throughout. In their last game of the season, the crew was met with a strong Phillies? performance. The Padres played in two of the tournament?s most memorable games. The first was against a Rangers? squad that went into extra innings and had to be finished the following day. The Boys from Brotherly Love prevailed 6-5. The second game contest against the Giants was not representative of how well the Padres have played this season. Charles Middleton who tied for the regular-season home run title, matched a powered performance by the Giants with his own home run but it would not be enough. With a fourth-place finish in the regular season, the Friar?s stood exactly in the middle of the standings. The hottest team coming into the local TOC was the Rangers. Their finish was unmatched by even the top-seeded clubs. On May 12, the team held a 2-11 overall record and were in danger of a last-place finish. A five-game winning streak landed the Texans with a fifth-place finish. Their last game against the Red Sox in the second round of the tournament was a testament to the way the team played all season. The resilient club had a chance throughout but fell short.
