Help Lincoln businesses collect food for the Salt Mine

-A +A
By now you may be looking for a change from all the political talk. The Lincoln real estate and business community are hosting a can-tree drive. This drive will benefit the Salt Mine to provide food items to be distributed during the Holidays. Did you know, in 2008, the Salt Mine helped feed 8,412 families throughout the year with food items. In 2009, it was 12,065. This year, so far, they have provided food for 8,374 families. That amounts to over one million meals, with 67 percent of those meals feeding Lincoln’s children. This has been a difficult time for many. Each food item will go to feeding our local familys. What is a can tree? Each local office will gather cans and non-pershiable food items (by any creative means you employ). Each office “can” turn the collections into a festive display. You “can” display your festive can tree in your place of business or in a window in downtown. The event shall begin on Friday and end on Nov 18. The completed displays will be judged on the Nov. 19. The winning display will win the bragging rights of being the first annual winner, lunch in their business for the staff. But the real winners are the families of Lincoln and the Salt Mine. If you would like an entry form to join in the can tree festivities contact me at Barringer Realty. On Nov. 20, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the can-tree committee will be collecting cans, cash and food items for local distribution. Typically, we are in front of Safeway to collect food items and cash. Gina Morse and Barringer Realty, Lincoln
