Andrey Yushchuk was arrested Wednesday after a fatal head-on traffic collision on Sierra College Boulevard for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) public information officer David Martinez.
Yushchuk, 43, is from Lincoln.
At about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Yushchuk drove his vehicle northbound on Sierra College Boulevard, at Caperton Court, at an unknown speed, according to Martinez.
Yushchuk allowed his vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines and into the southbound traffic lane, causing a head-on collision with a Nissan Quest, Martinez said. The 54-year-old driver of the Nissan Quest, Gabriel Rodriguez of Live Oak, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP.
The Nissan Quest driver was driving southbound on Sierra College, north of Caperton Court, at approximately 50 MPH, according to a CHP press release.
After the initial impact, the Nissan Quest swerved toward the right and rotated around, resulting in a second head-on collision with a 2011 Chevrolet pick-up, according to Martinez. The pick-up driver was not injured.
Calstar transported Yushchuk to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with major injuries, according to the CHP press release. He was arrested at the hospital for driving under the influence of alcohol and released into the custody of the hospital, Martinez said.
Traffic in both directions on Sierra College was closed for approximately two hours for scene investigation.
