William Jessup University signed its first golfer of the season by selecting a Lincoln High School graduate. Hayden Emerson was picked by WJU golf coach Matthew Stewart to join his team. “Going to a Christ-centered school has always been important to me,” said Emerson. “I love golf and the atmosphere at WJU. I look forward to growing on the course, in the classroom and life through my time as a Warrior.” Emerson finished second in the Pioneer Valley League Tournament, and was captain and most valuable player for the Fighting Zebras’ team. He also nearly qualified for the Northern California Championship while playing in the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Golf Tournament. Emerson also set a school record when he carded a 33, three under, over nine holes at Cherry Island Golf Course. Although graduating from Lincoln, Emerson grew up in Minnesota. He attended Elk River High School while where he qualified for the Minnesota State High School Golf Tournament. He played in the Minnesota Junior PGA, and won a tournament at Riverwood National Golf Club in Ostego, Minn., shooting a 73. “I am very excited to work with Hayden,” said coach Stewart. “With Hayden’s success on and off the course, he will be a great fit in our program and campus community.” The Warriors placed third in the California Pacific Conference, and sixth at the NAIA Regional Tournament last season.
