Attitudes Salon will host a haircut-a-thon Sunday, Sept.18 in the salon’s parking lot at 150 G St. to benefit Crystal Shawnee’s family. Shawnee, 40, has just days left to live. She has Stage 4 cancer of the appendix, a very rare form of cancer (see Sept. 1 News Messenger, front page, “A mother’s last wishes. Crystal Shawnee, 40, hopes the community provides for her children” or go online to newsmessenger.com). Shawnee and her husband, Markus, have two children, Katylyn, 13; and Jayden, 10. The Shawnee family needs help covering Crystal’s medical bills along with basic essentials and rent. All haircut-a-thon proceeds as well as proceeds from vendors participating in the event will go to the Shawnee family. Benefit organizers are looking for donations of hot dogs, buns, baked goods, cakes and cookies for a cake walk, soda, individually bagged chips, water bottles and raffle items. “We would greatly appreciate monetary donations as well as gift cards (some suggestions: Visa-to pay bills, WalMart, Winco, Safeway, Target, clothing stores, movies and restaurants for a bit of ‘get away’ time, etc.), food donations, paper goods (paper towels, toilet paper, etc.), casseroles, fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Johanna Meinking. Meinking’s house is the primary drop off location for donations for the Shawnee family. The address is 844 Glasgow Court, off Nicolaus in Glenmoor. To donate items, services, become a vendor or help the day of the event, contact Meinking at email@example.com or call 225-6320. Or contact Nicole Hart-Siddle at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 397-8789. The Sept. 18 fundraiser will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
