Glen Edwards students earning money for trip

Glen Edwards Middle School eigthth graders are having a number of fundraisers to help raise money for a Washington, D.C. and New York trip. “Approximately 50 eighth-graders are trying to raise $2,150 each to go on this amazing trip,” said student Wes Paszko. “The trip includes air fare, hotels, food, tour bus and so much more.” The trip is set for the end of the school year. The students will visit historical sites, including Mt. Vernon, the U.S. Capitol, the Kennedy Center, Ford’s Theatre, the Smithsonian Museum and Arlington National Cemetery. While in New York, their visit will include Top of the Rock, a Broadway classroom, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, the World Trade Center site, Chinatown, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Statute of Liberty and Ellis Island. Students are holding a raffle now to raise trip funds, according to Wes. Raffle tickets are $5 each, $25 for six tickets and $100 for 30 tickets. The drawing will held on March 1. Tickets are available at First prize is a one-week Disney vacation, June 23 to June 30, including accommodations at a 5-Star resort and four park tickets. Second prize is a one-week getaway in Truckee in a two-bedroom condo. Various dates are available. Third prize is a wine -tasting for 10 at Vina Castellano Winery in Auburn. In addition, Round Table Pizza in Lincoln will donate 10 percent of all orders on Tuesday to the trip. Also, on Oct 23, Kim’s Country Kitchen will donates 10 percent of food purchases to the school’s fundraising committee, according to Wes.
