The first school board meeting of the year passed quickly Tuesday night, ending after 15 minutes. Western Placer Unified School District’s four new principals and assistant principal were introduced to the board. New principals are Jay Berns, Lincoln High School; Shelly Hoover, Glen Edwards Middle School; Scott Pickett, Creekside Oaks Elementary; and Daniela Thompson, Twelve Bridges Elementary. Mike Maul is a new assistant principal for Lincoln High School. Students will meet these new administrators during the first day of the new school year, which is Aug. 25. The school board completed its annual duty of approving the collection of Mello Roos for the Lincoln Crossing and Twelve Bridges areas. They are mello roos, or community facilities districts, put in place by the district in December 1991, according to the school district’s facilities planner Heather Steer. One community facilties district in the Twelve Bridges and Foskett Ranch area has 4,529 parcels being levied for a total of $3,253,462.10, according to Steer, and the Lincoln Crossing district has 2,718 being levied for $1,979,855.84. Before the meeting closed, Superintendent Scott Leaman gave a public thank-you for those in the district who supported him and his family before and after the July death of his wife, Lori. “I really do appreciate the support of the district office and board,” Leaman said. “Many people did many things I’ll never know in support.” Leaman said he “deeply appreciated” the three years of support. “We’re really doing OK. I have two really great kids,” Leaman said. “As time presses on, we will make our family into a family that still feels the strength in Lori’s direction she’s given us and push on.”
