Former Lincoln High softball player Stephanie Tofft will transfer from Northern Illinois University to the University of Florida where she received a scholarship to play for the Gators. ?I think I can play at that level,? said Tofft of Florida?s program. ?(Florida) is a team that will make me better every day.? The University of Florida is in the Southeastern Conference, which includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. NIU is a member of the Mid American Conference. Tofft said she plays softball nearly year round. She said her play in the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) is where she was noticed and credits team liaison Kevin Breault for getting her a tryout with the Gators. ?(The) ASA is where all the scouting happens,? Tofft said of where she was scouted. ?I was in Colorado, actually.? Tofft suffered a back injury this season and has been receiving physical therapy in preparation for reporting to the University of Florida. As for juggling athletics with academics, Tofft said she actually does better in the classroom during the softball season. ?As far as softball goes, I think I?m more focused,? Tofft said. _ Contact Jim Linsdau/News Messenger Sports Editor at
