Food for Fines to Support Salt Mine

The Salt Mine and the Lincoln Library are partnering again this year for the month of April to celebrate National Library Week with our Food for Fines program to help support the effects of the economic downturn in our community.  By bringing non-perishable food items to the library in lieu of fines for overdue items during the month of April, Lincoln Public Library will be able to give thousands of food items to The Salt Mine.  The Salt Mine is a wonderful resource in our community which provides food and other services to local families and the Library works to enrich people’s lives by providing information, educational and entertainment resources.  By working together these two organizations make a difference in the lives of local families.

Library patrons can also donate non-perishable food items if they currently do not owe fines but would like to support the Salt Mine and local families.

The Salt Mine’s main charitable outreach for the last few years has been through their food closet.  Currently, they are providing food to over 1500 families a month.  This means that they need to receive about 3 tons of food every week.  When food arrives, the Salt Mine staff sort, bag, box, and distribute the food to qualified families.  Every box provides a family with three meals a day for seven days.  So, although Food for Fines will be over for this year in April, the Salt Mine continues to need your support.  Non-perishable food items can be donated year around to their facility at 590 G St, Lincoln CA 95648, 916-645-0160

Circulation at the library has been especially high since families have less disposable income for entertainment and education. Many families come to the library to gain valuable skills that employers are looking for, apply for jobs on library computers, homework assistance, or to simply find ways to keep their family members entertained with DVDs, CDs, Books, and other amenities.  As always the programs and services provided by Lincoln Public Library are free of charge and available at the Twelve Bridges Library, located at 485 Twelve Bridges Drive at Colonnade Drive. We look forward to seeing you!  For more information about the libraries visit the website at www.libraryatlincoln.org.
