Fiscal Sustainability Committee workshop postponed

Submitted to the City Council on Jan. 19: The Fiscal Sustainability Committee (FSC) decided at the January 18th meeting to postpone delivery of the final report from January 30th to February 21st. This was done to ensure there was sufficient time for final evaluations and a written qualitative and comprehensive report. The FSC originally intended to hold its subcommittee report discussions and full FSC voting on specific recommendations on January 26th and 27th, with publication of the report on its web site and formal delivery to the City Council on January 30st. During the subcommittee peer-group review process it became clear that more time would be necessary to assure that everything was as fact-based as possible and all potential questions and options were explored. Additionally, the inter-relationships necessary between the various subcommittees became more apparent than originally anticipated. Given the amount of time and effort that has gone into this effort, we did not want to rush-to-complete a report to meet a self-imposed deadline. We believe the additional time will allow us to deliver a complete report we can be proud of. An additional timing consideration was that we did not want to release the report the day before a regularly scheduled city council meeting since neither the City Council nor the public would have had a chance to see and adequately review the document and background information leading up to the recommendations in sufficient time prior to the meeting. The original goal was to deliver the report and all back up information for public review during an off-week, then present the report to the City Council at a workshop at a time of their choosing. The new schedule is to hold the final FSC review and recommendations voting on February 16th and 17th (in public session) with release on February 21st.
