Thunder Valley Casino will be the site of a boot drive for the Firefighter Burn Institute. Firefighters from Placer County Fire/Cal Fire will collect monetary donations in their turnout boots Saturday to Monday in Lincoln at Thunder Valley Casino, according to Placer County Fire/Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jim Mathias. The drive will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. A boot drive will also take place in North Auburn at the Safeway Shopping Center and Bel Air Shopping Center Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mathias said. Placer County Fire/Cal Fire has done the boot drive for at least eight years, according to Mathias, and is a satellite drive of one held in Citrus Heights every year. “We are the biggest satellite drive,” Mathias said. “We usually make between $30,000 and $40,000 between Thunder Valley and North Auburn.” Last year, the drive collected $31,428.07 “Firefighters will be asking the community to help support burn recovery programs including Firefighters Kids Camp for Young Burn Survivors, Little Heroes Preschool Burn Camp and other burn programs supported by the Firefighters Burn Institute,” Mathias said. Mathias said Thunder Valley has been supportive of the cause. “They really help us out. They make a sizeable donation each year and they’ve been really supportive of us over the years,” Mathias said. ~ Stephanie Dumm
