TENNIS Lincoln, the Pioneer Valley League No. 2 seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs, was scheduled to open at Ripon Christian Tuesday in Division III play. The Knights were the top seed from the Southern League. Senior Kaitlin Fischer made it to the PVL finals in singles competition before falling to Tine Hummel of Placer. Fischer will also compete in section singles beginning today. Although this the first time in about a decade that the Fighting Zebras have made the playoffs it is not the first time individual players have made it. In 2010, Jeremy Orteza and Jessica Ho teamed up in mixed doubles to win that championship. In 2009, Ho and Sarah Bietz took the title for girls doubles. And in 2003 Ozzie Bellido and Kate Love wore the mixed doubles crown. In singles, Shawn Morgan was runner up in 2004. SOCCER The Fighting Zebras made the playoffs taking second in the PVL. They wrapped up regulars season play at home against No. 1 Colfax Tuesday. Lincoln came in with a 5-2-2 record and the Falcons were 7-0-2. The Falcons defeated the Zebras 5-0 in their first meeting. Since that time Lincoln lost 2-0 to Center, tied Foothill 1-1 and defeated Placer 2-0. Lincoln pitching couldn?t contain Center?s firepower as the ?Cats picked up eight runs in the first four innings. The defense held on to prevent a 10-run defeat but the Zebras? bats couldn?t make up the ground. Lincoln?s Ashleigh Stidman had two hits, one a triple. Courtney Jones, Halle Esparza and Rachael Dal Porto all had a hit in three trips to the plate with Esparza and Dal Porto slamming doubles. Starting pitcher Miranda Schroeder helped her own cause hitting a home run but it was the only run the offense would get. Lincoln falls to fourth place in the PVL race at 3-4. Center and Placer are tied for third at 4-2; Bear River is 6-0. Lincoln was scheduled to play at Foothill Wednesday and return home to host Placer Friday. They close out regular season play May 9 at Colfax. GOLF Lincoln?s golf team placed second in the PVL?s final 18-hole tournament of the season at Ancil Hoffman Golf Course; however, the Zebras finished third in league by one point and will not advance to the playoffs as a team. Lincoln?s Kenny Bills, Matt Shirley and Trever Wilson will enter Sac-Joaquin Section Divisional individual play at the Yolo Flyers Club beginning Monday.
